West Australian progressive pop metal force Voyager has revealed that their frontman Danny Estrin is battling cancer.

The unsettling news comes after an incredibly successful year for the group who represented Australia at Eurovision and released their new album Fearless In Love. The timing of the diagnosis, less than two weeks ahead of their European tour,  means that the tour is now postponed until late 2024.

The band shared the unexpected and troubling news via a statement today, with Estrin indicating that the diagnosis came as quite a shock.

"Last week I was dealt some life-altering news: I’ve been diagnosed with a form of cancer that requires immediate treatment. I am absolutely devastated that we cannot perform on our forthcoming European tour, especially after this incredible Eurovision year we’ve had. I am on strict doctors’ orders to not take this lightly, put my health first and get this sorted so that we can be on stage again as soon as possible. This has been an extremely hard decision to make, but one that everyone will hopefully understand."

Estrin and his bandmates Alex, Ashley, Scott, and Simone, have requested privacy at this difficult time, and will not undertake any media engagements or offer until further notice.

To support the band, people can purchase merchandise from the following stores: Kings Road (UK/EU), Merchbooth (USA), Wild Thing Records (AU). They can also sign up to the band’s Patreon to get exclusive behind-the-scenes content and updates and join the Voyager fan group and Discord community.

At this stage the band believe their Australian tour will go ahead, however, it is too early to know yet what the forthcoming weeks/months will hold. They promise to communicate with fans as soon as possible, should anything change.

The genre-defying quintet will kick off that tour in their hometown at Perth’s Metro City, before heading to Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney and wrapping up at Adelaide’s UniBar. Tickets for all shows are on sale now.  Voyager are also offering VIP experiences, including a pre-show meet and greet, a photo opportunity with the band, signed laminate and poster, as well as early access to merchandise. Information on all packages can be found here

Released in July, Fearless In Love is the eighth full-length effort from Voyager.

Released in the wake of their epic performance at this year's Eurovision Song Contest, Fearless In Love showcases the band's fearless sonic progression, fully embracing the 'progressive pop metal' label.  An interplanetary balance of virtuosic pyrotechnics and skyscraping radio-ready hooks morphs at the speed of sound from one era to the next. In bursts of bright light, luminous keys, neon guitar wizardry, and stratosphere-shaking rhythms, they elevate hard rock to another realm. The group blasts off on a signature prog, rock, and metal hybrid, possibly best described as the musical equivalent of Guardians of the Galaxy.
