It's that time of year again folks, when Australia gets to pretend we're part of Europe and send our best to compete in THE biggest and best songwriting contest known to exist, the Eurovision Song Contest!

With WA progressive pop-metal powerhouse Voyager, selected to represent Australia in the 2023 contest, which kicked off today, we find ourselves looking forward to what promises to be one of the heaviest Eurovision Song Contests in history.

With the visibility of rock and metal entries skyrocketing in recent years thanks to a bunch of strong performances, including a grand final appearance last year by The Rasmus and a win for Italy's glam-rock superstars Måneskin the year prior, Voyager are considered a genuine threat to take out the contest with their entry Promise. Should they manage to do so, they would deliver Australia our first-ever Eurovision crown.

In the lead-up to Voyager's date with destiny, we're pregaming for this week's contest by cranking the volume on this list of the eleven most metal moments in Eurovision history. Follow us down the rabbit hole, eccentricity and enjoyment await.

     MåneskinZitti E Buoni (Winners, 2021)

Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah (Winners, 2007)

    The Rasmus - Jezabel (21st in 2022)
