Slipknot have confirmed the identity of their new drummer. To the surprise of seemingly nobody with an internet connection, that drummer is Eloy Casagrande. The former Sepultura drummer played his first two shows with Slipknot over the weekend, with his first outing behind the kit taking place at Slipknot's surprise intimate show in California, followed quickly by the Iowa nine-piece's set at Sick New World in Las Vegas.

Slipknot officially welcomed Eloy into the band via their social media channels, posting a simple message of "Slipknot officially welcomes Eloy Casagrande", accompanied by a photo of Eloy in his new mask and jumpsuit.

The official welcome ends the near-constant rumours that Eloy was the man to replace the ousted Jay Weinberg, leaving the identity of their new keyboardist and sampler as the only mystery remaining for fans to solve as the band launches into an era in which they'll celebrate the 25th anniversary of their breakthrough self-titled record.

The latest iteration of Slipknot delivered a savage set at an 850-capacity venue in California. The show, which took place at Pappy + Harriet’s in Pioneertown, California, was the first show to feature the still unnamed new drummer.

The show featured the band wearing their throwback jumpsuits and self-titled era masks. The show also appeared to mark the first leg of the band's 25th Anniversary celebrations for their globe-conquering self-titled debut album.  The setlist for the show was in keeping with that vibe, with the band playing a healthy selection of older material including five songs from Slipknot (Eyeless, Prosthetics, Spit It Out, Surfacing and Wait and Bleed) and three songs from each of Iowa and Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses). The setlist can be seen below.

During the show, Corey Taylor told fans that "Tonight, it doesn’t matter you came from. It doesn’t matter when you were born. This year is 19 fucking’ 99, right here. We’re gonna play you some songs from beyond that year. But God damnit, it all started in ’99, and it is starting again here tonight.”

The surprise show was only announced a couple of days ago, and tickets were available to fans for the low price of $9, with all proceeds from the sold-out event directed to Joshua Tree No Kill Shelter and Boys And Girls Club of The Hi-Desert.  Watch fan footage from the show below.

Following their performance at Sick New World, the band shared a photo of their new lineup, masks and jumpsuits.

The band appears to be ready to launch a new era, with the creation of the throwback website YouCantKillMe indicating plans for the future are well and truly underway. The band have already confirmed they will return to Australia to headline Knotfest Australia 2025 next year as part of their 25th anniversary run.

As for the future of the former members, Weinberg, who replaced former drummer, the late Joey Jordison in 2014, has joined Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies. While Jones has kept out of the spotlight.  Weinberg was a member of the band for just under a decade, keeping Jordison's spirit alive while contributing his percussive flair on three Slipknot full-lengths, 5: The Gray Chapter, All Out Life and The End, So Far. Jones had been a member of the Iowa metal collective for 27 years before the band took to social media and announced his departure in a since-deleted message that read To our fans, Slipknot is announcing that we have parted ways with Craig Jones. We wish Jones all the best for the future." Whatever the future holds for the rest of Slipknot, it appears 2022's The End, So Far. is the final recording that either Jones or Weinberg will contribute to.

Produced collaboratively by Joe Baressi (Queens Of The Stone AgeSoundgardenAvenged Sevenfold, Parkway Drive) and Slipknot, The End, So Far is the follow-up to Slipknot’s 2019 We Are Not Your Kind which marked the band’s third consecutive #1 on the ARIA album chart.   To celebrate the widely anticipated release we caught up with Slipknot bass player, Alessandro 'V-Man' Venturella for a discussion about all things The End, So Far, if you haven't already, head on over and give it a read.
