A new film is set to explore why so many people claim to hate Nickelback.
Set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Hate To Love: Nickelback promises to provide an overview of the Candadian megastars career. A brief synopsis of the film states "Nickelback is one of the most successful acts in music history — they’re also the number one band haters love to hate. This intimate portrait surveys the Canadian stadium rockers’ rollercoaster career." but both reports and the film's trailer indicate that it will be more than a glorified publicity stunt, with the documentary team taking a no-holds-barred approach to exploring why the band are seemingly universally loved and hated at the same time.
At one point in the trailer guitarist Ryan Peake states "Nobody picks up a guitar to be the most hated band in the world", while vocalist Chad Kroeger admits that the hate does get to them a little bit from time to time, “We try to laugh it off. You can laugh off about 90 per cent of it. Some of it… it hurts.”
The documentary also promises to showcase the band's rise from rural Alberta to chart-topping, stadium filling global sensations, providing an insight and a level of candor previously not available to fans.

Earlier this year, frontman Chad Kroeger has revealed that he believes all the hate his band has received over the years has actually helped the band stay relevant. As transcribed by Loudwire, Kroeger shared his thoughts on the unintended positive impact of the most vocal Nickelback detractors during a chat with US radio program Whiplash.
"All the detractors, all the haters, all the keyboard heroes, they have no idea how much they keep us in the press loop. It's hilarious,"
"Those people that would love to see us go away, if they really wanted to see us go away, they would just shut up, because all those bands that came out with us at the same time are all gone, because nobody said anything about them. They all just sort of disappeared. But we've really kind of spun this whole negative thing into a positive thing. And here we are."

Kroeger's comments come as the band are out touring in support of their most recent album 2022's Get Rollin’.
The release of Get Rollin' followed a promotional campaign from the band that sawthem 'go missing' and poke fun at their own endless meme-ability. The band also starred in a viral video Nickelback Reacts to Nickelback Fans React To Nickelback in which fans listen to Nickelback songs, while Nickelback watch their reactions secretly. When they finish listening, the band reveal their presence and everybody has a nice time.
