After three years of pandemic-related cancellations and postponements, reunited emo icons My Chemical Romance took the stage in Brisbane last night, officially commencing their first Australian tour in over a decade.

With many fans having been in possession of tickets for these shows for two years, there has been plenty of time for conjecture as to what My Chemical Romance might play when they finally made it downunder. With reports of deep-cuts, album tracks and rarities being played at shows across the globe, mixed in with the obvious monster singles, MCR fans across the country have had plenty of time to dream up their informed dream setlists. If what MCR played in Brisbane last night is any indication, many of those fans might just get what they were hoping for.

Playing a slightly different set to what they performed in New Zealand over the weekend, My Chemical Romance reportedly treated the Brisbane audience to an eclectic mix of cuts from across their celebrated catalogue. Opening with their 2022 comeback single The Foundations Of Decay, the set featured tracks from every release with five songs each from their most recent full-studio album, 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, five from 2006's career-changing The Black Parade, three from 2004's breakout Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, two from singles collection Conventional Weapons, two from their 2002 debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, and B-side Bury Me In Black from their Life On The Murder Scene live album.  View the full setlist below thanks to Setlist.fm.

My Chemical Romance will continue their Australian tour this evening with a second show in Brisbane, followed by two nights in each of Melbourne and Sydney.

Adding to the excitement for local fans, emo icons Jimmy Eat World will provide the main support on each show.

One of the most celebrated and influential bands in their genre, Jimmy Eat World will bring nearly three decades and ten albums worth of emotive rock tunes to the stadium environment.

My Chemical Romance released their first new original song since 2014, The Foundations of Decay last year.

Slow building, brooding, anthemic, drenched in emotion and yet somehow still bleeding jubilation, the six-minute track is a reminder of why My Chemical Romance are the undisputed icons of the MySpace era.
