Corey Taylor has categorically denied that Jeramie Kling will be the one filling the drum throne for Slipknot following the band's firing of Jay Weinberg

Taylor took to X (formerly Twitter) yesterday outright stating that Kling, who has been widely rumoured to be in consideration for the job will not be the person behind the kit for the next version of Slipknot. Taylor tweeted

"To everyone wondering about our new drummer…It’s not him. Stop letting him troll you. He’s not even on the list. #hesnot666"

Kling recently departed the band Venom IncSlipknot announced the departure of long-time drummer Jay Weinberg earlier this month The band revealed they were parting ways with Weinberg, posting the following message on their social media channels this morning. The message has since been deleted.

“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honoured Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”

This ended the partnership between Weinberg and Slipknot, one of the metal scene's fairytales. Weinberg, the son of E-Street band drummer Max Weinberg was a die-hard fan of the band prior to being tapped to join them post Jordison's departure. Weinberg was a member of the band for just under a decade, keeping Jordison's spirit alive while contributing his own percussive flair on three Slipknot full-lengths, 5: The Gray Chapter, All Out Life and The End, So Far.

Weinberg's final show with Slipknot occurred on Friday night at Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Mexico.

Weinberg revealed that he is 'heartbroken' following the band's decision to part ways with him

Weinberg took to Instagram shortly after the announcement of his departure to share an emotional message to fans on his Instagram story, expressing gratitude for the experience of being in Slipknot, yet admitting he was blindsided and heartbroken by the news that his time with the Iowa metal monolith had come to an end.

    Weinberg's post reads.

"I sometimes wonder what it would be like to pay a visit to my wide-eyed, 10-year-old self- falling head over heels in love with a new and exciting sound and culture – and tell him all about the last 10 years. "Even on the hardest days, I'd like to think he'd be stoked about the adventure that was in store for him.

"I was heartbroken and blindsided to receive the phone call that I did on the morning of November 5th; the news of which, most of you learned shortly after. However, I've been overwhelmed by — and truly grateful for the outpouring of love and support I've received from this incredible community I consider to be my creative and artistic home.

"This is not the ending to the journey I'd dreamt of, and committed myself to seeing through not by a long shot. But, despite the confusion and sadness, there is something that's provided an equal amount of comfort. For many of you reading this: 10 years ago, we weren't yet acquainted. And now, we are. For that, I'm thankful in ways I'll never be able to fully express.

"I love playing the drums. I'll always love playing the drums. I'll always have a passion for music, art, and creative expression. Nothing will ever change that.

"I don't know how, and I don't know when, but I look forward to creating loud, passionate, and heartfelt music that we enjoy together again. Until then, please know it's been the joy of a lifetime to spend the last 10 years with you, sharing in our love for this special corner of the music and art world.

"This isn't the end, and I'm thrilled to discover what the future has in store for us. Thank you."

Corey Taylor is currently on tour in Australia appearing on the Good Things Festival as well as performing a select run of headline sideshows. The first of those shows was last night in Sydney.

The tour is in support of his second solo full-length CMF2CMF2 sees the legendary Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman continue to explore different sides of his musical personality. Taylor not only sings but plays lead and rhythm guitars, piano and mandolin on the release, which packs all the energy, experimentation and forthrightness that's defined his multi-million-selling career as one of the most recognisable voices in rock and metal.

Speaking on the artistic intentions of CMF2, Taylor offers "My first solo album was kind of where I was coming from. This album is more where we're going.”

Previewed by the singles BeyondPost-Traumatic BluesTalk Sick and We Are The Rest, CMF2 follows up Taylor’s 2020 solo debut CMFT, which featured hit single Black Eyes Blue and the streaming sensation CMFT Must Be Stopped (feat. Tech N9ne and Kid Bookie).

Opening up on lead single Beyond, Taylor revealed that Beyond harkens back to 2006 in some shape or form. Taylor knew the song was special, but never found the time to bring the tune to its potential.

I originally wrote it as an aggressive romantic song, but I'm also looking at it now as a kind of ‘come together’ song,” Taylor explains. “Bringing the masses together, and letting them know that I want my music to take them beyond what they may think about me. Maybe they’ve had a misconception about me. It’s not exactly a calling card, more like throwing the bat signal up and being ‘alright, let's turn everything on its head.’ It’s almost a dual threat because now I look at it from two standpoints.”

The follow-up single Post Traumatic Blues showcases a far heavier side of the musical spectrum than Beyond, with the iconic voice behind Slipknot and Stone Sour stating that the track is an example of him publicly exorcising some demons.

“‘Post Traumatic Blues’ is my attempt to describe for people what it’s like to deal with PTSD,” says Taylor. “Sometimes it’s so hard for people to understand the ups and downs, the severity of the cold and numbness, that I wanted to try and build a bridge lyrically between the ones living with the disease and the ones who are trying to help them.”
