Sydney System of A Down fans have the chance to be a part of the Guinness World Record for 'simultaneous headbanging' next Saturday, July 8th.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of System of A Down's iconic self-titled debut album, Sony Music Australia are offering fans the opportunity to make history, as they attempt to fill Sydney's Enmore Theatre with over 540 fans simultaneously headbanging to System of A Down.

If they achieve the feat, they will surpass the current mark of 539 and each person in attendance will be an official holder of a Guinness World Record. The current record has stood since 2018.

Maniacs interested in attending the free event are invited to register to do so now

In a statement, Sony Music Australia described the event as "July 8. One Fandom. One Place. Celebrating 25 years of System Of A Down’s debut self-titled album.” You can watch a promotional post for the attempt below.

Rare footage of System of A Down rehearsing in 1998, has been uploaded to YouTube. In two videos uploaded by the channel The System of A Down Live Archive, you can see the band rehearsing for shows in Sacramento, California.

The footage was captured just months after the release of System of A Down.

System of A Down is considered by fans and critics to be a breakthrough release for the group and the nu-metal genre as a whole. Home to beloved singles Spiders and Sugar it set the foundations for the chart-busting feats of follow-up Toxicity, which celebrated its 20th birthday in 2021.
