The Black Dahlia Murder plan to continue on as a band with guitarist Brian Eschbach stepping up to the mic to fill the role previously occupied by the late, great, Trevor Strnad

The band have also revealed that former guitarist Ryan Knight will return to the band to cover for Eschbach's move to frontman duties.

The revelations were made during a new interview with Decibel magazine, with Eschbach providing insight into how and why they made the choice to continue their career as The Black Dahlia Murder.

"We spent many days thinking, it this over? None of us wanted it to be over. We still feel like there is a lot left to do. I know Trevor would keep this band going if I went down a deep, dark path and weren't here. It's bigger than us. When we finally started talking about it, we thought, 'Let's remake it from within and see if Ryan wants to return. And I'll take a crack on the vocals and see how it goes.' I can't go out there and do Trevor's voice or try to be him. I can only execute the music of the Black Dahlia Murder with respect and try to do it the most justice I can. I've heard Trevor perform more than anyone else alive."

Knight provided his own reflections on why he felt like returning to the band was the best thing for him and for the band at this stage.

"The time I've spent with this band is the best time I've ever had," added Knight. “Being away has given me a lot of time to reflect, and it always occurred to me that being in this band is the best use of my time. I've thought a lot about the band while I was away and realized how much value this band has. I almost feel like I let some opportunities slip, being away from the band. So, it feels great to be back and like everything has come full circle. I've realized how much I love being in this band."

Showing that it is very much a group decision to continue onwards in the absence of Strnad, guitarist Brandon Ellis shares that continue the band is the best way to pay respect to Strnad's legacy.

"This band must carry on, and this is the way to do it. The only thing we could do in the wake of this tragedy that honors and respects Trevor's legacy is what we're doing. It would almost be disrespectful to let this fizzle out. Trevor wouldn't want that, and anyone who is a fan of us wouldn't want it. This is what must be done."

The Black Dahlia Murder have also announced a tribute show in honour of the life and legacy of Trevor Strnad for October 28 in Detroit. The tribute show will feature Darkest Hour and Plague Years as supports.

Trevor Strnad the longtime vocalist for the melodic death metallers died at the age of 41 in May.

At the time, the band confirmed the news of Strnad's tragic passing on their Instagram. In a post, which was accompanied by an image of a black square, the band paid tribute to their beloved singer

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Trevor Scott Strnad. Beloved son, brother, and Shepard of good times, he was loved by all that met him. A walking encyclopedia of all things music. He was a hugger, a writer, and truly one of the world’s greatest entertainers. His lyrics provided the world with stories and spells and horror and whimsy. It was his life to be your show."

Strnad’s cause of death has not been disclosed, but the band ended their statement with contact information for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. A founding member of The Black Dahlia Murder, Strnad's passing left a big hole in the metal community. With the announcement of their intention to continue the band, The Black Dahlia Murder will be able to ensure that his musical legacy lives on.
