Have you ever found yourself playing Super Mario 64 and thought "This would be way better if Meshuggah wrote the soundtrack?",  if so, then YouTuber and gamer JeffeLeffe has just become your new hero.

The industrious soul and obvious Meshuggah fan has created midi versions of Meshuggah records and ported them over to the Super Mario 64 SoundFont. The results are honestly, both impressive and bordering on panic-inducing.

Commenting on the creation process, JeffeLeffe reveals "This was a beast to tackle. there was not a lot of correct tablature nor midi files for this album, so most of this had to be done from scratch. Especially the drums tracks. and if you heard this album it sometimes feels like listening to a giant drums solo."

The Destroy Erase Improve upload follows JeffeLeffe's earlier efforts which saw him give the same treatment to the Meshuggah classics Chaosphere, Nothing, Koloss, I, Catch ThirtyThree and ObZen. Of these, our favourites is probably Nothing which even kicks off with the classic Mario "Here we go". 

As for the experience of actually playing Super Mario 64 with this playing in place of the soundtrack, that is on the cards for us this evening, but we suspect anything involving Bowser or being underground is going to be infinitely more terrifying. 



Meshuggah celebrated the 25th anniversary of Chaosphere last year. Originally released on November 9th, 1998, Meshuggah's 3rd full length studio album shows the band toning down some of the thrashier sounds of previous releases in favour the more technical, polyrhythmic, groove-oriented sound they would go to explore on subsequent albums.

The album contains the songs New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Corridor of Chameleons, and Neurotica, some of the band’s most streamed tracks, among other highlights. To commemorate the albums’s quarter-century anniversary, Atomic Fire unleashed a sonically updated version of the album. The re-release of this masterpiece comes in hi-def audio (remastered by Thomas Eberger and Sofia von Hage at Stockholm Mastering) and is available on marbled vinyl now from our Maniacs store. 





Meshuggah released their latest full-length effort Immutable in 2022. One of the most anticipated albums in recent memory for metalheads across the globe, Immutable brought a fresh and fearsome revelation from Meshuggah. Shattering even the highest of expectations, the band’s ninth album Immutable showcases just how far ahead of the pack the band continues to be. The album is a significant departure from the relentless riffing and monochrome churn of Koloss or The Violent Sleep Of Reason.

With vocalist Jens Kidman recording his own vocals in his home studio and lead guitarist Fredrik Thordendal manifesting his solos at his own Studio 33, Immutable is a true team effort and another triumph of resourcefulness and meticulous attention to detail. Meshuggah had never felt more inspired when they found themselves in a new environment at Studio Sweetspot.  As guitarist Mårten Hagström recalls.

“Dick pitched Sweetspot to us, they have lots of experience but mainly with other types of music. It was out in the sticks, in a big shed in the middle of a field! We had no tours going on, and we rented a tour bus for cheap. We drove it down there, and we lived in that. So basically, we went on tour to record the album [Laughs], and we worked our brains into pieces! But it was also really free. We went for comfort and quality and a working situation where we didn’t feel stressed at all. That was awesome, and the strongest parts of this album are because of that.”

Hagström explains fans should prepare themselves for the unexpected on Immutable. 

“This album is more melodic. It’s longer, and in my opinion, it’s more dynamic than most of our albums, we wanted to go for air and for dynamics, and lo and behold, that actually makes it sound way more like a band, from my perspective."
