Byron Bay metal heroes Parkway Drive have released their seventh studio album Darker Still.

To mark the release of the feverishly anticipated record, the Byron Bay behemoths have shared the new focus track Ground Zero.

The opening track from Darker Still, Ground Zero opens the album in an anthemic way. The track erupts with galloping guitar solos, stadium-sized riffs, and the thunderous roar of McCall. It's a fist-in-the-air tour de force that will send adrenaline coursing through your veins from start to finish.  The band shares their inspiration for the track.

"Ground Zero, the first impact, this song is where it all begins, from the fragile opening to the anthem inspiring chorus. Welcome to the new era of Parkway Drive. Live like life depends on it.”

The most ambitious album of Parkway Drive's career, Darker Still, is being released by the band's own record label Parkway Records.  To celebrate the release, the first-ever Parkway Drive DigitalXPhysical Gallery and Pop-Up Store will be open for one day only on September 10 in Melbourne's OSHI Gallery.

The massive new single is also part of the collection of Parkway Drive songs soundtracking the 2022 NRL Finals Series on Fox League. Filmed at Allianz and Accor Stadiums, Fox League’s biggest promotional campaign yet sees Parkway Drive performing alongside several NRL teams vying for the premiership. The campaign is in full swing with colossal performances of Glitch and Darker Still ushering in the finals series last weekend.

Keeping with the new era of Parkway Drive, their current single Darker Still just scored across the board adds on Triple M Sydney and Melbourne, an incredible feat that sees the band continue to break new ground almost 20 years into their career.

Darker Still creeps to life with a whistle and an acoustic guitar. From here - for close to seven minutes - the band takes us on a sweeping odyssey through awe-inspiring guitar solos, ethereal choirs and strings and a surprising vocal performance from Winston McCall.

"Love. Time. Death. The great defining elements that make up our existence. This song begins with the simplest of human sounds and represents these elements as the musical journey grows to reach its souring crescendo before facing the inevitable conclusion of its journey. The night grows dark… darker still." states McCall.

Darker Still followed previous singles The Greatest Fear and Glitch in previewing Darker Still

Darker Still unfurls like the great rock concept albums, from Pink Floyd to, most comparably, Nine Inch NailsThe Downward Spiral, its 11 tracks taking in ruminations on society’s fear of death, isolation and a loss of humanity in its journey to redemptive enlightenment.
