We caught up withTom Searlefrom the band pre-tour to see what he was most excited about and what makes him a Maniac. Check it out below!

    1. The Let The Ocean Take Me tour will hit venue sizes of 5000-8000 capacity in the major cities. Tell us about the largest crowd youve ever played to and how you dealt with the nerves.

    Hard to say exactly, but the one that sticks in my mind was playing the mainstage at sonisphere. I didn’t deal with the nerves! My hands definitely did whatever they liked for the first couple of songs. I couldn’t compose myself or concentrate. I’m hoping to hold it together a bit better on this tour!

    2. Australia is home to some of the deadliest animals in the world, which are you most afraid of coming into contact with?

    Spiders are the worst aren’t they? I always heard stories about them sneaking into your shoes and then fucking you up when you put them back on. NEAR. Funnel web spiders can do one too. Back home I’m cool with spiders but over there you see a spider and you don’t know if it’s some psychopath that’s going to kill you in 5 minutes. Probably best I just stay away from all of them.

    3. What song are you most looking forward to hearing from the other bands on this tour?

    I’m keen to see Issues play “Life of a Nine”. To be honest I’m interested to see them play anything off their new record. They’re doing something different and I don’t think they get enough credit for how complex the music they play is.

    4. Australians like to think we have the best beer on Earth. Tell us how much you agree and why.

    Really? I don’t know who has the best beer on earth, but I would never have said Australia! I’m happy for someone to prove it to me whilst we’re there though.

    5. What makes you a MANIAC?

    What am I obsessed with…I don’t know. I like to think I have a healthy interest in things rather than obsession. The only thing that I make myself completely insane over is writing music. When I’m writing I can’t think about anything else. I’ll talk to people but I’m not there…my mind constantly drifts to songs, riffs, arrangements, drum patterns, lyrics…It’s exhausting actually.
