Darkest Hour have announced their first album in seven years, Perpetual | Terminal.

The acclaimed Washington D.C. melodic death metal/metalcore act will release the album on February 23 via MNRK Heavy.

To celebrate the announcement of the record, which will be the follow-up to 2017's Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora the band have shared the video for the raging titular track.

The very metal Mirko Witzki-directed video can be viewed below.

Speaking on Perpetual | Terminal guitarist Mike Schleibaum offers:

“We keep killing parts of ourselves to make new parts and survive. The story of the record is the story of the band. We’re still here, and we’re giving the world a body of work that’s representative of our music today. We’ve realized relationships, tours, good times, everything that seems to give life meaning, is terminal — and will inevitably end. Nevertheless, we’re 46-year-old dudes who love this music enough to put up with the trials and tribulations of being artists in a touring band.”

The band gave further insight into the inspiration and evolution of the single.

"This is a whole Darkest Hour album in one song." “It felt like the perfect album opener, eventually became the title track, and therefore is the perfect place to start as we present this new album to the world. Lyrically, it touches on all of the themes of the record — an album centered around the duality of survival and rebirth. Or, you could just say, some new music from old friends who just won’t ever give up.”

One of the most respected acts of their era Darkest Hour's influence on the sound of modern melodic death metal and metalcore is undeniable.

The three album run of Undoing Ruin, Deliver Us and The Eternal Return is widely considered to be among the strongest three record runs in the genre. 2005's Devin Townsend-produced effort Undoing Ruin is held in particularly high regard.
