Machine Head frontman Rob Flynn has declared Post Malone one of "one of the great American songwriters and performers of our time" and labelled San Jose punishers SUNAMI the "heaviest motherfuckers in the game".
Flynn showered the two wildly different musical acts with praise on Instagram, posting photos with each act, alongside video footage of Post Malone's live performance at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. Flynn also revealed that he had a bit of a bonding session with Post Malone's dad over their joint love of Megadeth.
Flynn captioned the post "Shout out to @postmalone for the fantastic show last night. He really brought his A-game to the Shoreline Amphitheatre. Great setlist with a solid mix of new songs, singles, and older jams from Beerbongs & Bentleys, and Stoney. Dude is one of the great American songwriters and performers of our time. Grab tickets while you can, absolutely worth it! Massive super-size thanks to the best dude EVER Adam DeGross for making Genevra and I feel so welcome. Give him a follow for some seriously breathtaking photos @adamdegross. The after-party got wild! Got to bro-down with Posty's dad and talk some Megadeth, as well as finally meet the hardest motherfuckers in the game right now, the mighty @sunami.408 Keep an eye on these dudes, they're absolutely killing it. Lotta beers and a lotta laughs. Been a crazy couple of weeks... won't get into it, but yeah... needed last night bad. Music heals all."
Post Malone was most recently in Australia supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their arena run, earning rave reviews from Chili's fans for his live performances. This followed his well-received lockdown live stream of Nirvana. Flynn's approval only further affirms his rock credentials. San Jose's SUNAMI are one of the hottest bands in hardcore right now, with their punishing brand of hardcore earning plaudits from not only Flynn but from current Metallica bass player and former Suicidal Tendencies member Robert Trujillo as well. Machine Head released their tenth full-length, Øf Kingdom And Crøwn last year. Featuring one of the best metal songs of the year, Chøke Øn The Ashes Øf Yøur Hate, ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN was met with great fanfare by their fanbase.
Øf Kingdom And Crøwn is a 13-track concept album set in a decimated futuristic wasteland where the sky is stained crimson red. The crux of the story is based on 2 main characters: Character #1 Ares: (pronounced Aries), our main, who loses the love of his life (Amethyst) and goes on a murderous rampage against the vile sect responsible for her murder. Character #2 Eros: (pronounced Arrows) the perpetrator, who loses his mother to a drug overdose and becomes radicalized in the aftermath. Eros goes off the deep end manifesting his own killing spree. The lyrics detail how their lives intertwine. Upon the release, Flynn commented: “Thanks to my 2 teenage boys my family has become obsessed with this awesome Japanese anime series called “Attack On Titan.” The album’s concept was loosely inspired by the series in the sense that in the storyline, there is no “good" or "bad" guy, both characters believe they’re doing the right thing as it applies to their being, but make no mistake, both are committing acts of pure atrocity and evil. The opening track “Slaughter To The Martyr” is basically our character #1’s origin story.”
Machine Head are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of their genre classic Through The Ashes of Empires this year. Check out the classic track Imperium below. One of our 23 Metal Anthems Turning 20 in 2023.
