Texas post-hardcore band Crown The Empire have released a big new single called 'what i am' through Rise Records, which could be a precursor to the announcement of a follow-up album to 2016's wildly-popular Retrograde.

While the new track is devoid of harsh vocals from singer Andy Leo, it's a soaring anthem powered by excellent bass lines, pounding drums and massive choruses. It's definitely a bit of a change in sound for the guys, but one which seems to work really well. Check out the video below, which sees the band treated as some kind of test subjects:

Vocalist Andy Leo said the track had some important meaning behind it:

"Throughout the past few years, I have been involved in some rough relationships with various people. I spent a lot of time writing the lyrics to this song because I was not having an easy time being so vulnerable and I HAD to get these words out for my own sanity," he continues. "It's hard for anyone to ask themselves, 'Did I make the right decision here? Am I being selfish or am I finally focusing on myself to be a better and happier person?' The answer was 100 percent 'yes' and I hope that this song will help anyone who feels the same way."

Crown The Empire also released another single in July called '20/20'. which has a bit of a heavier edge to it, and will likely be part of an upcoming release with 'what i am'. The next release will be the first without the band's previous lead vocalist David Escamilla.
