Here at Maniacs we're definitely about the odd throwback or two, and today's edition comes in the form of what is believed to be the earliest footage of System Of A Down that can currently be found on the internet.

Performing at California's Showcase Theater in 1997, the band play through 'DDevil' and 'X' for the first time ever; the former appearing on their 1998 self-titled debut album and the latter on 2001's Toxicity.

By this point in time they'd released three demo tapes and John Dolmayan had just joined the band on drums a few months prior. They would go on to record a fourth demo tape to send to record producer Rick Rubin, which only surfaced online at a later date.

Check out the footage below, which shows a 30-year-old Serj Tankian donning makeup and frosted tips like every other great 90's nu-metal frontman (they also perform Suite-Pee as well):

There is some earlier footage of their first show ever at the Roxy in 1995, but it is only brief and supposedly provided by Shavo Odadijan himself for the documentary it's a part of. If anybody knows where to find any other footage of it please let us know!

Listen to System Of A Down now.
