Congratulations are in store for Melbourne's Windwaker. The band announced this past weekend that they have signed to US label Fearless Records (worldwide) and Cooking Vinyl (for Australia).
To celebrate this news which will no doubt be the talk of their respective families Christmas dinners, the band have released a cover of Britney Spears absolute banger Toxic.
Watch the video for Windwaker's cover of Toxic below.
Speaking about their choice to cover Toxic, the band shared the following message via Wall Of Sound.
‘Toxic’ is an all-time banger; the song undeniably slaps, we’ve never taken ourselves too seriously in that sense. We’ve always been an ‘If it feels right, it feels right’-type of group’, and this cover came together like that. Not everything has to be this big, pretentious song and dance of ‘Look at us! Look at us!'”
In our opinion, the cover is one of the best Britney covers ever recorded and we've listened to a LOT of Britney covers, trust us! The expert-level treatment Windwaker turn out here comes as no surprise to us at Maniacs, the bands' unique brand of heavy music has been putting a smile on our dials for a while over here and we're delighted to know the world is about to catch on. Before they go jet setting across the globe though, there are matters to take care of at home, starting with the mighty Knight And Day Festival on New Year's Eve.
Will they play Toxic at Knight And Day? Your guess is as good as ours, but if they do, we'll see you in the pit!
