Dream Theater have released an awesome animated video for their epic new track The Alien.

The expansive nine-minute mind melter is the first taste of their 15th studio album A View From The Top of The World which is set to drop on October 22nd via InsideOut.

Speaking on the writing process  for The Alien, guitar icon John Petrucci stated

"It's the first one we wrote together. It gives people a window into what it was like when we initially met up after all of those months off. It has the adventure, the untraditional structure, the heaviness and the hooks. It really set the tone for the album"

In typically non-typical Dream Theater fashion, The Alien blasts to life thanks to some Mike Mangini percussive wizardry before escalating in intensity and complexity. Amidst the chaos, there's some room for contemplation from vocalist James LaBrie, Petrucci explains that the atmospheric contemplative sequences were written to perfectly match the lyrical narrative.

"James wrote the lyrics about the idea of terraforming and looking beyond our Earth for alternative settlements. Since we’re going beyond our planet, ‘The Alien’ turns out to be us. I thought it was a cool and creative lyric by James," detailed Petrucci.
