With tickets having gone on sale for Rage Against The Machine's reunion tour, the band have managed to raise over $3 million USD via the sale of 'Charity Tickets', according to the band's guitarist Tom Morello.
In order to choose charities and organisations in each city of the tour, the band have withheld 10% of the tickets at nearly all of their headlining stops. These tickets are being sold at a higher amount than regular tickets, with 100% of the proceeds from those tickets going to those select charities.
While RATM have come under scrutiny for tickets being unobtainable due to extremely high prices caused by scalping on regular tickets and the more expensive Charity Tickets, Morello has also stated that no tickets originally went on sale for higher than $125 USD (aside from the Charity Tickets, where 100% of the profit goes to charity), and that they were able to block 85% of scalpers during the first day of tickets being on sale.
His Instagram post reads:
So far we have been able to block approx 85% of scalpers trying to buy tickets and in two days have raised over $3,000,000 for charity. Still, annoying scalpers (and misinformation) remain. We appreciate the overwhelming demand and are discussing next steps to ensure more of you will be able to come and see us.
The band have a busy year of touring ahead, with an extensive run of shows in the US and Europe booked from late-March until mid-September 2020.
Unfortunately, no Australian shows have yet been announced, but here's hoping we'll have them down here towards the end of the year!
