Plastic Pop Goes Metal

    POSTED

On a pretty plain Wednesday afternoon, there aren’t many things as sickly sweet as seeing a plastic pop song go metal - only made better with an epic video to match. These are our top 10!

10: Bruno Mars - Grenade (covered by Eddy Is The Man)

9: Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (covered by ERock)

If you haven’t seen any of this guy’s videos before, he’s rad and you need to check him out. Only coming in at number 9 because his video isn’t all that creative, he’s mega talented though.

8: Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On (covered by New Found Glory)

These guys have been doing great cover’s for years and they’ve definitely spiced up this ‘heartwarming’ ballad.

7: Daft Punk - Harder Better Faster Stronger (covered by Pellek)

My only criticism is that it could be a little heavier, but still, a sick cover.

6: Taylor Swift - Love Story (covered by Amongst The Ruin)

Out of all the pop princesses, Taylor Swift is hands down my least favourite. Amongst The Ruin definitely do a much better job telling their own 'Love Story’. And you can’t go past the semi-home-made-looking video to match.

5: Britney Spears - Crazy (covered by Sugarcoma)

The queen of plastic pop had to come in here somewhere, and this cover by Sugarcoma was the best I could find. Mostly good because I feel like I’m back in the 90’s watching it, as well as the singers crazy-eyes in the chorus.

4: Avicii - Wake Me Up (covered byTobias Derer &Nils Lesser)

We’ve all got that friend that thinks Avicii is the best thing ever (unless I’m the only unlucky one..), and here’s a nice spin on it that makes the song a whole lot less painful to listen to. Despite using the original vocals, the guys do a pretty sweet job on guitar and drums.

3: Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball (covered byBrian Storm &Andrew Baena)

The video that was inspiration for this post. The only thing missing is one of the guys licking a sledgehammer, but still, they have done well despite that little flaw in their video.

2: Lady Gaga - Bad Romance

The video here scored these guys major points in their overall ranking, they’ve done a good job.

1: The Hobbit & Lord Of The Rings Metal Remix

Despite being far from a plastic pop song, nothing is more deserving in a countdown of metal covers than what these guys have done with covering The Hobbit & The Lord Of The Rings. Let your ears recover after all the pop, and enjoy.

Post your favourite covers below, I’m sure there are heaps I’ve missed!
