In news that'll make you feel like it is the '80s again in all the wrong ways,  a group of 'concerned parents' have launched a petition to have a teacher transferred from their children's high school because of her Iron Maiden fandom.

Eden High School principal Sharon Burns has earned the considerable wrath of the St. Catherines, Ontario school's concerned parents. The source of their consternation? The 'satanic imagery' that is present in her personal social media posts about heavy metal, most notably her posts about Iron Maiden

A petition demanding Burns be transferred to another school rather directly titled Eden High School Principal, Sharon Burns, Needs to Be Transferred Immediately! was lodged on Change.Org   The frankly ridiculous petition gained over 500 signatures. The content of the petition explains the apparent issue with Principal Burns

"As concerned parents with impressionable children at Eden High School in St. Catharines, Ontario, we are deeply disturbed that the principal assigned to the school blatantly showed Satanic symbols and her allegiance to Satanic practices on her public social media platforms where all the students can see them."

Our school is based on inclusion, and openly displaying Satanic symbols (on a public social media platform) that directly goes against the principles of the vast majority of families who represent the school, is not inclusive. As a result, some parents have come together to argue that she should be transferred to another school, and be replaced by someone who "aligns with the values of the families at Eden."

This makes us want to petition to have her transferred to our children's school immediately!

The concerned parent's group behind the petition go to great lengths to explain that the issue is apparently not that Principal Burns is a fan of metal, and Iron Maiden, but that she posts about that fandom and associates with its 'satanic' imagery in public forums where their children could see it, which if you were to ask any metal fan, is pretty much the same thing!

"Please Note: This petition is not about Sharon Burns’ love for Iron Maiden. At no point has it ever been. This petition is about a principal of a school openly displaying her own handmade sign with the 666 clearly displayed on it which she knows full well what that Satanic symbol means to the vast majority of families in her school and she put it on a professional, public account on social media, not a private one, which she very easily could have done. If she had not posted a picture of her own handmade 666 sign, this petition would not exist. Nobody cares what band she likes and this is not about her choice in what she listens to. That would be petty and nonsensical."

The concerned parents, bless their little hearts, even went so far as to include the 'offensive posts', even going to the effort of 'explaining' their concerns on their own social posts.

If these images of Principal Burns holding up the devil horns next to a car covered in Iron Maiden merch, and an Eddie toy with '666' inside of a heart is enough to inspire a potentially life-altering petition like this, then we'd pay good money to see their reaction to our Cannibal Corpse collections!

Iron Maiden released their 17th studio album, Senjutsu last month. We recently spoke to guitarist/living legend of metal Dave Murray about the album and his incredible career.
