It wasn't all that long ago when the internet's history books were blessed with the war of djent between metal YouTubers Jared Dines and Stevie T, who tried to outdo each other with the biggest, most ridiculous low-tuned guitars in the world.
After that saga culminated in an epic seaside face-off between the two, Jared Dines is back at it with a new 20-stringed guitar based off the fictional Mountain Dew djent meme that has been doing the rounds online for years now. For those who haven't seen it, this is what it looks like:
While the resulting monstrosity isn't quite as thick as the original (because let's face it, you would need a forklift to get that thing around), it's still an extremely hulking green beast in its own right! The guitar was made by custom luthier 10s Guitars and took half a year to bring to life.
Jared also states at the end of the video that he wanted the thing to be playable, which is exactly what he does; sitting the giant instrument on his lap and playing a heavy track using the full range of strings on offer.
It's actually pretty incredible how Dines is able to play something so cumbersome so effectively, but he's obviously had a lot of practice with his 18-string from back in the day.
Watch the mayhem for yourself:
Wonder if Meshuggah ever thought their music would lead to shenanigans like this 20-odd years down the track? Probably not.
