It's finally here, metalheads. Trivum's Matt Heafy has shared the first single from his long-awaited black metal band, IbarakiTamashii No Houkai is a six-minute storm of black metal majesty featuring genre icon Ihsahn (Emperor).  Arriving accompanied by an artsy, Samurai starring, black and white video,  Tamashii No Houkai has quite a deep meaning as Heafy explains.

"Tamashii No Houkai means 'the breaking of the soul' or 'soul collapse', it's a Japanese term that didn't exist before, but one we forged to reflect the song's meaning."

Watch the video for Tamashii No Houkai below.

The writing of Tamashii No Houkai is something that Heafy considers a landmark moment for Ibaraki.

Tamashii No Houkai'is co-written by Ihsahn — the legend behind Emperor and a musician who has been a longtime influence and mentor to so much that I do in music. The writing of this song was the turning point for Ibaraki — it summarized everything from the past, present, and future of what I thought black metal was, is, and could be."

The debut Ibaraki release add to a busy few months for Heafy who has released several cover songs following the release of Trivium's 10th studio album, In The Court Of The Dragon in October.
