We've all seen a bored bassist or two in our time, but how can you blame them? While it's an extremely overlooked part of a band (try listening to a song without any bottom end), it's not exactly always the most exciting instrument to play. Thankfully, Blink 182's Mark Hoppus has the answer to the bored bassist problem in this CollegeHumour sketch.
Speaking at the annual bassists convention to a room full of familiar faces, Hoppus states "We have to stop looking so bored onstage when we play," to the crowd of bassists who start slapping their strings in approval.
Going through examples in a slideshow, Hoppus uses examples of famous bass players like The Who's John Entwistle standing idly onstage "I mean does he even know that he's in The Who?" "...and this, Dave Matthew's bassist is bored performing in front of 60,000 people!". Bass legends Flea and Les Claypool do get the nod of appreciation, though.
He then goes on to suggest ways to combat the issue like actually exploring the stage and not talking to the drummer mid-song, even going as far to take a hilarious dig at his own band Blink 182. Check it out!
