Ghost have dropped the hedonistic new single Twenties featuring Fredrik Åkesson of Opeth.

The most recent single to be lifted from their forthcoming album Impera due for release March 11th via Loma Vista Recordings, Twenties is a most unexpected move from Ghost, with its messianic promises of reigns of pennies and piles of moolah set to an appropriately manic musical backdrop, the unrelenting and propulsive Twenties stands in stark contrast to its Pre-Impera predecessor, the eerily hypnotic Call Me Little Sunshine.  In fact, the apocalyptically prophetic vibe of Twenties —  particularly its lyrical relevance to historical events unfolding on the world stage (however incidental) — render the song utterly unique in the Ghost canon.

Watch the lyric video for Impera below.

The release of Twenties is accompanied by an Apple Music New Music Daily exclusive interview with Ghost’s Tobias Forge, welcoming Apple’s Zane Lowe into the world of Impera.

Meanwhile, Ghost's Tobias Forge has revealed he is "allergic to nu-metal".  Speaking to Metal Injection about Impera Forge revealed his personal distaste for the genre while discussing his personal taste.

"My taste is very old school. Ever since like '94 when nu metal started to really show its face, I've been allergic to anything that suggests nu metal and unfortunately that has been like the everlasting genre from like '94 to today," he continued. "The bands that I like are usually bands that sound like an '87 sort of death metal band. Unfortunately. I hate to be negative. But I like a lot of other music. I like a lot of different rock. I'm more open when it comes to that."

Impera finds Ghost transported hundreds of years forward from the 14th century Europe Black Plague era of its previous album, 2018’s Best Rock Album GRAMMY nominee Prequelle. The result is the most ambitious and lyrically incisive entry in the Ghost canon: Over the course of a 12-song cycle, empires rise and fall, would-be messiahs ply their hype (financial and spiritual alike), prophecies are foretold as the skies fill with celestial bodies divine and man-made… All in all, the most current and topical Ghost subject matter to date is set against a hypnotic and darkly colourful melodic backdrop making Impera a listen like no other — yet unmistakably, quintessentially Ghost

Twenties is the third window into Impera following Call Me Little Sunshine and Hunter's Moon which was one of our 30 best metal singles of 2021.
