Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has confirmed to Variety that the 'lost' Dream Widow EP will drop this Friday.

If the rest of the record is anything like March Of The Insane, released last month, we could all be in for one hell of a thrashy time.

Dream Widow is the name of the fictional band in the Foo Fighters' very own horror-comedy, Studio 666 which opened in theatres last month for a select run and has just hit streaming services worldwide. Speaking to Variety, Grohl revealed the inspiration for the Dream Widow EP.

“When we started writing the script, we had the idea of there being this epic metal opus that — once completed — would release the demon in the house, I said, ‘Oh, fuck, I’ve got a million riffs.’" So I recorded this 13- or 14-minute long instrumental just by myself that’s very metal, and it’s meant to be from the [fictional] band Dream Widow. Then, I furthered that idea by making a whole record by Dream Widow that would be their lost album that they recorded before they were murdered.”

As for what we can expect of the sound of the Dream Widow release, well metal-heads it sounds like we're in for a treat similar to Grohl's Probot project, with the great man telling Rolling Stone

"Some of it sounds like Trouble; some of it sounds like Corrosion Of Conformity; some of it has a KYUSS vibe."

Here's hoping the Foo Fighters unleash some Dream Widow tracks on their upcoming Australian/NZ stadium tour in December.

Foo Fighters most recent album, Medicine at Midnight is out now.
