It’s not every day that we get to have a chat to Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Scar The Martyr). Check out what we had to talk about!

Youre a busy man touring with Slipknot and working on the new project Scar The Martyr. How do you manage?
I always find time. Not only with Slipknot. I played with Korn, I went out with Rob Zombie for a long time, I played with Satyricon, produced Three Inches Of Blood, I played with Ministry; theres always time. The thing is I just never take a break.

What do you do during downtime?
I usually try and get a catchy riff out a day. Regardless of whether or not Ive got a record coming out because I know eventually I will need material and eventually I will hit a writers block.

How does writing for Scar The martyr differ from writing a Slipknot album?
Being at the helm of this project Im writing the music that Im hearing in my head and Im getting the idea down on a demo first. On this record, one of the first songs I wrote was Blood Host and thats a pretty old song. It was a lot different to what I had left off of Slipknot, so I took it as a starting point. I had so many ideas I kept recording and once I had more than a whole albums worth I thought man, I gotta make a band out of this.

Whats it like when you do finally release a record?
Let me put it this way. We just got actual hard copies of the disk today the first time Ive seen it we got the copies mailed to my house and I still havent listened to it. Its like Im nervous to play it. I feel like everything is cool right now, I dont want to freak out on it.

Are you a fan of horror/cult films?
I loved Evil Dead 2. I think its funnier than the first one and its got more cheesy lines. I see it as more of a comedy than a horror film. I also like the first Phantasm movie with Angus Scrimm. When that movie came out it had such a creepy vibe. Same thing with the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Its one thats always up there for me.

    What makes you a Maniac?
Every time I got to a Record store it takes me hours to get out.
