With so many new metal releases dropping every week, it can be hard to know what to listen to, so we've taken it upon ourselves to do the heavy lifting, sorting the 'hell yeah' from the 'hell meh' you don't have to. Now, let's light up the Friday Fire!

Friday Fire: Five Tracks We're Feeling This Friday 12th August

Enter Shikari feat. Wargasm- The Void Stares Back

It has been almost three years since Enter Shikari last released a new single. On their previous outing The Great Unknown, the final single to be taken from their UK #2 album Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible, we last heard the band questioning “Is this a new beginning? / Or are we close to the end?” As they now share highly anticipated new material, the answer to those questions comes into sharp focus: a new beginning is upon us.

Long-established as restless innovators operating in entirely their own lane, Enter Shikari re-emerge today with some of their most thrilling and potent work so far, in collaboration with WargasmThe Void Stares Back spins a startling pop sensibility into a haymaker chorus, that erupts to champion acceptance, community, belonging and the power of progress. It’s about staking your claim, being who you are, searching for like minds and ushering out the antiquated views of old. Lead vocalist and keyboardist Rou Reynolds comments:

"It is with elation, and more than a little nervousness, that we release this; our first track after over two years of dormancy.  It is a roisterous journey made all the more so with the addition of our friends Wargasm. Thematically, the piece is about the forward march of social progress, and how, often, those with a more conventional archaic outlook on sexuality, gender, social design, economics etc, see those with differing ideas like bewildering, depraved creatures from another dimension.”

Sylosis - Heavy Is The Crown

Thrash metal masters Sylosis have returned with their first new music of 2022. The band, who are set to headline the inaugural Knotfest Presents Pulse Of The Maggots festival and play the mainstage at Bloodstock this week, have released a new single titled Heavy Is The Crown. The track ebbs and flows as the band's signature, thunderous grooves give way to a masterfully crafted chorus. Maestro Josh Middleton comments

"Heavy Is The Crown is the first of a trilogy of singles we’re releasing this year – these songs were developed during the writing of the next Sylosis record and although weren’t right for the album, are perfect for some standalone bangers. Heavy Is The Crown is a song that all our fans can get into and also highlights some of the progression in the band's sound.

    RinRin - Guns & Grenades

Perth alternative metal rising star RinRin proves she's one to watch with explosive new single Guns and Grenades. Releasing in time for her upcoming showcase at Bigsound 2022, the dystopian single is just the beginning for what's in store for RinRin. With a fierce passion and dedication to mastering her craft, RinRin has soared to great heights off the back of her intricate guitar work and impressive songwriting abilities, and has already been snapped up by management company Riverman (Placebo, Deaf Havana) and is represented by Destroy All Lines in Australia/New Zealand and Paradigm in Europe. The artist shares her thoughts on Guns & Grenades

"Guns and Grenades" is about doing something you don’t want to but are forced to out of obligation, as is so often the case in war. "The song is not about taking sides or the political aspect of the war, it's for the people who don't have any choice and are being used by politics: the fathers and brothers who should be with their families but have to stay to defend their country; Lovers who belong to opposing sides but have to fight each other because they have a duty to."

    Wednesday 13 - You're So Hideous

Wednesday 13 is back with You're so Hideous, the first single from the forthcoming full-lenght Horrifier (out October 7 via Napalm Records). Accompanied by an Exorcist inspired official music video!  You're so Hideous stuns with danceable 90s sonic flavor, a sing-a-long chorus and an unforgettable lead riff that is sure to be heard at venues this fall! Wednesday 13 explains what inspired the track.

'You’re so Hideous' is such a catchy track and it’s one of the very first ones I wrote for the album. Lyrically, it’s a modern day Medusa story… Beware the stare into her eyes. The music video was of course inspired by the Exorcist film and was a lot of fun recreating that."

Reliqa feat. Sean Harmanis  - Safety

Already a burgeoning force to be reckoned with in the modern Australian musical landscape, Sydney alternative maestros Reliqa have dropped one of the most interesting and inspired singles of the year in Safety. Lifted from the freshly announced EP I Don't Know What I Am (out 16th September), Safety is a sonic journey unlike any we've heard recently or ever really. Boasting everything from rap-rock vocals to chuggs, blistering percussion, menacing melodics, sweltering breakdowns and caustic beauty levelled up, via the addition of Make Them Suffer's Sean Harmanis alongside vocalist Pym's potent vocals, Safety is entirely not playing it safe in the best way possible, with Reliqa wholeheartedly declaring their passionate new sonic chapter via their new track, as the band explain:

"We’re so excited to be taking the next step into this new era of our music, and collaborating with Sean might just have been the best way to do that. Two styles have collided in a really cool way here, and we think Safety is the ultimate showcase of all the passion we’ve packed into this EP."
